ABOUT MY WORK:
There are many influences on my style, approach and choice of subject, either from various working experiences or life's adventures.
I catch fleeting moments, elements of life, atmospheres and visual sensations as they present themselves to me, and are never set up.
The following life experiences have had a strongly influencial effect on my work.
1980's
Growing up deep in the Oxfordshire country.side
Musical interests: classical piano and clarinet as well as a fan of 80's punk.
Moving to school in Oxford with its cosmopolitan social life, then to London to study Art History and Chemistry BA(Hons) at Camberwell School of Art & Crafts. This marked the start of my love of JMWTurner and other 19th century English landscape painters and also a commitment to the conservation of works of art.
Working as a Curator at the Victoria and Albert Museum, Theatre Museum, as custodian of historic sets and costume designs convinced me of the importance of preserving our rich heritage for the future.
1990's
Studying Fashion Styling and Photography (HND) at London College of Fashion encouraged a participation in the creation of all things aesthetically pleasing, beautiful and theatrical.
Working in music television spurred an interest in animation, foreign art films and documentaries leading to a desire to tell real and human stories photographically.
Working in urban architectural and design practices prompted personal observations and reportage projects on urban society and environment.
A photography teaching appointment in South East Asia for an international children's charity opened my mind to the beauty and perseverance of humanity.
2000 to present
A few years living and working in the Middle East was followed by an MA in Photojournalism (Westminster University) which fed my determination to tell the truth photographically.
And most recently, living and working near Hampstead Heath, I have been drawn into a subject so inspiring and involving that I wish to share what I see and feel with others.
Please take a look.
